I have been an independent consultant, Chief Scientist at Systran Software (software for automatic translation of human languages, including Babel Fish), founder and CEO of Tesuji (educational software), and a systems manager and systems architect at Merrill Lynch (financial services). I have recruited and managed several teams of software engineers, architected several software systems and carried them through a full life cycle, implemented testing and QA procedures, raised capital, co-authored two books, acted in various advisory capacities, and engineered systems in many computer languages. Currently I divide my time between computer work and study of computational complexity, database theory, and applications of logic in computer science (at the University of California, San Diego). Therefore my time availability is currently limited. However, I am able to shift my competing needs with some flexibility, so as to go through periods of full-time consulting work in the computer industry. I prefer to work under some flavor of Unix (I use Linux) and to program in C++, C, or Forth. I prefer to work on projects where technical skill matters and where it is important to do things right. Finally, I prefer to work as an independent contractor, but I am willing to consider alternatives for the right opportunity. |
